Some of our best kept Secrets

Our inventory changes so rapidly at the store it's hard to post photos of items for sale. As soon as something is photographed beautifully, edited, & uploaded.. Then it sells. At least we are left with a stunning photo.

There are some really special items in the shop right now, so I'm just going to tell you about some of my favorites sans photo, these include plus size party dresses, children’s clothing & men's formal wear.

We have a pretty great selection of party dresses for the curvy ladies right now. It is so often assumed that you can't get vintage in larger sizes, we work as hard as we possibly can to make sure there are a variety of sizes in the shop. And I have to say that many of our prettiest dresses right now are in larger sizes just waiting to be snatched up and loved.

Such as:
1950s pink grapefruit colored satin party dress with a stunning portrait collar
1960s super space age black mod mini dress
1940s sweet as can be silk pink & natural colored floral empire waist dress
1940s blue/red plaid day to evening dress with rad black wooden buttons.
------------------------------------------------------------------
We have a small collection of several little girls’ dresses from the 1940s all handmade with a lot of love & in stunning condition. We've also got some super cute children’s coats, toggle style & 70s boys jackets in denim and leather.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have somehow ended up with an incredible selection of men's formal wear in a range of styles and ages. Topcoats from the 30s and Tuxes ranging in age from the 1920s-1960s. I've got a stunning hat collection of bowlers and top hats from the 20s-30s all made and labeled by fine local hat makers. The hats are not in the store, if you are interested you should shoot me an email.
-------------------------------------------
Take advantage of the sale now, so we can continue to stock the shop with great new finds for 2010.

Here are some of my favorite shots of dresses gone by.

Sweetest Things 2009- What a Treat!

What a super special way to celebrate our first year. Thanks DC! We'd love your vote!

The Winter Holidays kick off with First Thursday! Demember 3rd

There is so much going on in JP this week I can't stand it; it's hard to know where to start. So we'll just start with tomorrow! It's First Thursday and there are over 30 participating artist shows in the Centre/South district.

Jamaica Plain's First Thursday is back and South Street is kicking it up in high style to usher in the Holiday Season. Dame is pleased to present lilian asterfield by nicole deponte™2009 One of a kind, upcycled, necktie accessories and fine art. We'll be carrying her line of crazy awesome belts and neckpieces in the shop and this Thursday December 3rd from 5-8 Nicole will be hosting a trunk show at Dame.

Come on by, mix &  mingle. Be the first to check out her new goods and talk to her about her inspiration. If you’ve never seen Nicole’s work in person, this is a great time to check it out.

And that's not all... Come and see additional works in the shop:

Vintage Photography Retrospective -
The work of Roydon Burke-Quincy, MA (1901-1993)

If you've been in the shop then you've seen the portraits that I lovingly refer to as the dames. The images of women, sirens captured from decades past, all soulful, all wonderfully dated and quintessentially Dame.

These photos were taken by a dear family friend by the name of Roydon Burke. He was a Five Star PSA member, ranked as one of the top 5 American Photoraphers and 11th Internationally. Dame will be posthumously honoring him, with a selected showing of his work. On display will be his city and scenery shots. Some of his prints, all large format hand printed black and white originals will be for sale.

If the photos interest you , take this opportunity to come in and talk to the curator of the collection who can tell you about his life and work. It's a wonderful chance to peak into the life's legacy of a local artist.

This is our first Holiday Season in JP and we are totally excited to add to the growing selection of shops on South Street. There's been at least two new additions in the last couple of months, which I'm sure helped secure our neighborhood profile in the Boston Globe gift guide.

If you've never been to JP, First Thursday is great time to check out the neighborhood and local shops. Refreshments, vintage art and all kinds of holiday glamour going on. Really something for everyone, even the boys!
